Silvia Meniconi is a the PC of the MORE4WATER project. She is a Full Professor of Hydraulics at the University of Perugia, specializing in hydraulic transients, pipeline diagnostics, and sustainable water resource management. She holds a PhD in Civil Engineering (Hydraulics) from the University of Perugia and was a Marie Curie Research Fellow at Eindhoven University of Technology. Her research integrates advanced numerical modeling, experimental studies, and real-time monitoring technologies to improve water distribution system efficiency, leak detection, and aquifer modeling.
She has led and contributed to major international and national research projects, including the MORE4WATER project, the Hong Kong-funded Smart UWSS on developing innovative diagnostic tools to improve the efficiency, resilience, and sustainability of urban water distribution networks, and the PRIN2022 TANDEM project on machine-learning-enhanced anomaly detection. Beyond academia, she actively collaborates with Italian water utilities, providing technical-scientific consultancy, diagnostic analysis, and innovative solutions for water distribution and transmission systems. These collaborations support the real-world application of research, fostering technology transfer and industry impact.
Her work has been recognized with the Water Resources Research Editors’ Choice Award 2021 and the Sustainability Award at H2O 2016 for co-developing an innovative pressure-wave leak detection device.
With over 250 scientific publications, including 140 in indexed journals, Silvia Meniconi is a highly cited researcher and serves as an Associate Editor for leading journals such as the Journal of Hydraulic Engineering (ASCE) and Journal of Hydraulic Research (IAHR). She also chairs the IAHR Working Group on Transient Flows and is frequently invited to speak at international conferences.
