Simone Vezzani represents the University of Perugia in the General Assembly of the MORE4WATER project and is involved in WP6.
He is currently Associate Professor (qualified as Full Professor) at the University of Perugia, where he has been teaching EU and International Law since 2011. Professor of EU Law at the “Centro di studi superiori per la formazione e l’aggiornamento di giornalismo radiotelevisivo di Perugia”, he is also associate member of the Instituto Universitario de Estudios Europeos “Salvador de Madariaga” (A Coruña), member of the Board of Guarantors of the University of Perugia, member of the Doctoral Committee of the PhD Programme in Law of the University of Perugia and of the Scientific Committee of the “Mestrado Profissional Internacional Conjunto em Direito das Migrações Transnacionais” (University of Univali, Brazil and University of Perugia).
After his studies in Florence and Paris (IEP), he got his PhD in International and EU Law at the University of Florence in 2008 and had research experiences at the University of Florence (research fellow and contract professor), in Washington, DC (visiting fellow with three month scholarship at the Georgetown University) and at The Hague (selected as one of the 15 young scholars to participate in the research session of the Centre for Studies and Research of the Hague Academy of International Law and awarded a 3 week research grant). He was awarded several prizes, among which the “Riccardo Monaco Prize” of the Italian Society of International Law for his PhD thesis on International Organization Law. He is the author of two monographs and many papers in the field of International and EU Law, and has co-edited two collected volumes. His research interests include International and EU Environmental Law, with a special focus on biodiversity law and biocultural rights, water law and environmental-related human rights.
He has participated in several research projects. Among them, in 2021 he was a member of the Scientific Board of the Hercule Project DRAMP (Diversion, Restorative and Mediation Procedures, 2020), financed by the European Commission and in 2020 he was the Scientific Manager of the Project “Agenda 2030 and Sustainbale Agriculture: Innovative legal Instruments for Farms: Environmental Codes of Conduct and Environmental Product Declarations”, financed by the “Cassa di Risparmio di Perugia” Foundation. He he is currently PI of WP3 of the project “One Health” financed by the Umbrian bank foundations, and member of the teaching staff of the Jean Monnet module ECOPOLEIS (Participatory Legal Instruments for Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities).
In 2016 and 2018 he participated in two international projects in Argentina financed by CUIA, on “The Sustainable Management of Natural Resources Among Global Commons, Participation and Transformation” (involving the Universities of Perugia, Palermo and Molise and partner universities in Argentina) in the quality as unique member of the Unit of Perugia and delegate of the Rector; and on “Gestión de los bienes comunes. Bosques nativos y propiedad colectiva. Intercambio de conocimientos y buenas prácticas para el desarrollo sostenible”, focused on the legal regime of water resources.
