27–28 October 2025 | Perugia
The Workshop “Citizenship, Democracy, and Environment: Which Models of Participation?” was held on 27–28 October 2025 at the Department of Law of the University of Perugia. Jointly organised by MORE4WATER and the Jean Monnet Module ECO-PoLeIS, the event explored new approaches to the governance of natural resources, with particular attention to participation, environmental rights and the role of cities.
The first session focused on the growing water demand associated with new technologies, with contributions from PhD candidates from UNIVALI (Brazil) addressing the implications of data centres for access to water resources.
The second day broadened the discussion to participatory democracy and the human right to water, drawing on experiences from the Global South and contributions from researchers from UNIVALI and the Dom Bosco Higher Institute of Mozambique.
The Workshop concluded with a roundtable involving local associations, agricultural representatives, researchers and the Municipality of Perugia. The discussion highlighted the perspectives of citizens, institutions and local producers, emphasising the importance of cooperation and active participation in developing effective responses to environmental and climate challenges.
The event strengthened the collaboration between the ECO-PoLeIS and MORE4WATER teams and their shared commitment to promoting dialogue among universities, institutions and local communities in support of environmental protection, the right to water and climate-neutral development.
